PS/IS 30 Steam Leadership Team

Posted January 11, 2016 By Gina Tart
As part of PS/IS 30’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) initiative, our middle school students have joined together to launch our school’s first STEAM Leadership Team.

Each Wednesday during NIA, our STEAM leaders are working together to plan and implement “Go Green” projects around our school with Ms. Tart and Ms. Moustapha. Many of the projects completed by the STEAM leaders will focus on beautifying and enriching our school environment.

In an effort to keep PS/IS 30 eco-friendly, the STEAM leaders will be participating in an ongoing paper-making project where they will transform shredded paper scraps that would normally be discarded into beautiful, handmade stationary.

Recently our STEAM leaders planned and hosted a Daffodil Bulb Planting Event with our kindergarten, first and second grade students outside of our Early Childhood Annex Building. The STEAM leaders taught the elementary students about the life-cycle of daffodils as well as how to plant and care for the bulbs. Thanks to the STEAM Leadership Team, our elementary students planted dozens of bulbs in the front garden of the Annex Building. We are all looking forward to seeing the daffodil flowers this spring! Thank you to New Yorkers for Parks‘ Daffodil Project for donating the bulbs to our school!

Be sure to look out for more STEAM Leadership Team school-wide events!

Please also contact Ms. Tart (GTart@schools.nyc.gov) or Ms. Moustapha (RMoustapha@schools.nyc.gov) with any questions, suggestions for school projects you would like to see, or resources that you would like to donate!
