Music Program

The past year has been truly exciting for all involved in our music program at PS/IS 30. Molding the curriculum for our students has been a rewarding and engaging experience, and I look forward to further development of the program.

This past school year, music class has been available to our K-2 students, and will include the 3rd grade in the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. We are hoping to introduce performance based ensembles later down the road leading into the middle school years, specifically chorus and string orchestra. Our students have been learning the core elements and skills of music through singing, playing a variety of musical instruments, and participating in music related games and activities. After skills in rhythm, pitch, tempo, melody and harmony have been introduced, practiced and refined, our students will be set up for success for these performing ensembles.

I intend for music class not to be limited to skills that are applicable specifically to musicians, but to strong leaders and team players. It is my goal that our students are equipped with the skills necessary to have a continued appreciation and participation in music, but to also apply the skills learned in music class to the success of everyday life. Working hard, staying positive, and working well with others are skills that I genuinely believe to be crucial to a successful music making process in addition to success in all areas.

Thank you for your continued support of our music program.
