Kindergarten parents typically enroll children through the DOE during Winter and receive an “offer letter” in Spring. In order to accept a kindergarten offer, you must bring your “offer letter” along with your child and documentation (listed below) to pre-register at the school. Registering your child does not prevent receiving future offers from schools where your child is waitlisted.

Pre-register: Monday – Friday;  9am-12:00pm

Deadline: TBD

When pre-registering, you must bring your child with you, as well as:

  • Proof of your child’s age (child’s birth certificate or passport)
  • Two documents verifying proof of residence. Acceptable documents are listed below:

o    Utility bill (gas or electric) in the resident’s name issued by National Grid, Con Edison, or the Long Island Power Authority; must be dated within the past 60 days

o    Original lease agreement, deed, or mortgage statement for the residence

o    Current property tax bill for the residence

o    Water bill for the residence, dated within the past 90 days

o    Official payroll documentation from an employer (example: payroll receipt); must be dated within the past 60 days

o    Document from a federal, state or local government agency (on letterhead) indicating the resident’s name and address (example: document from the Internal Revenue Service, New York City Housing Authority, or the Administration for Children’s Services); must be dated within the past 60 days

If you are not offered placement at the school you have listed on your application you will automatically be placed on the waitlist for all schools you have applied to. If you were offered placement for your second priority or lower, you will be waitlisted for all higher priority schools, but not lower. For example, if you received a placement offer for the school you listed third on your application, you will automatically be waitlisted for your first and second choice schools, but not your fourth. Schools will contact waitlisted families directly to offer placement.
